State of art and optimization perspectives for breast imaging

Abstract Breast screening with mammography is the most effective method of detecting early-stage breast cancer and reducing related mortality. Among intrinsic limits mammography, in terms clinical performance, overlapping normal pathological tissues one influential. Some new techniques as Digital Tomosynthesis (DBT) expected to overcome this limitation by providing a quasi-three-dimensional (3D) image that could lead improve accuracy mammography. Another way increase sensitivity represented double exposure patient before after intravenous injection contrast media, technique called Contrast-enhanced digital (or spectral) (CEDM, CESM). Furthermore, highly specialized software has been developed which able detect suspicious mammographic findings. This technology very interesting especially field, fact there are multiple ongoing studies evaluating use Artificial Intelligence (AI) second reader. To date, only imaging modality proven significantly lower demonstrated excellent specificity but did not meet expectations given risk over diagnosis well lack reduction number interval cancer. CESM some cases serve an alternative tool MRI. AI, seems be competing radiologist its reader programs already being proposed.
